At this point in a long interview – some (though not all) of which was intellectual masturbation, it seemed like this dialog ostensibly about the “gift of faith” (said multiple times before this) is about to become too self-serving for the host’s and guest’s tribal affiliations. Then, I was glad it quickly didn’t. From this point, I ask you lib-tards to wait til the guest brings up “social policy analysis” 3 minutes later; gag and eye-roll til then. It’s a freshman case of conservative drivel before that. Then, the wisdom of grace creeps in. The host is a swell fella; my tastes just don’t value his conservative sensationalism any more than they include left-leaning sensationalism. I think maybe I’m too goddam old for the sensationalism, or maybe my blood pressure meds make me tire at it.
Anyhow, if you sometimes doubt your faith as gullibility as often as I do when I listen to articulate detractors, maybe you’ll appreciate all the fallibility that the guest not only criticizes, but exposes about himself. The topics – aside from his personal story – include a few things that, as the Harvard intellectual he seems to be, he treats of poorly. One example is the argument that the disciples were all willing to die for their beliefs. My fav is rhe youth’s reminder of the ridiculous hypocrisy that the crucifixion of Peter comes from a single piece of evidence that was CONDEMNED AS HERESY! There’s no respectable record that ANY of the apostles were martyred. This interview actually includes a chat about how Acts ends with Paul living happily ever after.
Back to the interview. Instead of getting sucked into the host’s politico-cultural commentary, the guest returns the chat to the ineffability of faith and grace. I of course lean right, and I think it’s most cool when my tribespeople model humility for my proud ass, like this guest does.
In the end, it gives me hope for the oppressive, repressive, white, patriarchal, pseudo-intellectual hetero-males. Hope for … myself.
